Science Set Free
A guest blog entry by Rupert Sheldrake, PhD ( the blog of Deepak Chopra)
"The 'scientific worldview' is immensely influential because the sciences have been so successful. Their achievements touch all our lives through technologies and through modern medicine. Our intellectual world has been transformed through an immense expansion of our knowledge, down into the most microscopic particles of matter and out into the vastness of space, with hundreds of billions of galaxies in an ever-expanding universe.
"Yet in the second decade of the twenty-first century, when science and technology seem to be at the peak of the power, when their influence has spread all over the world and when their triumph seems indisputable, unexpected problems are disrupting the sciences from within. Most scientists take it for granted that these problems will eventually be solved by more research along established lines, but some, including myself, think that they are symptoms of a deeper malaise.
"In my new book
'Science Set Free',
to be published on September 4,
I argue that science is being held back by centuries-old assumptions that have hardened into dogmas."
( discussion of book by Rupert Sheldrake)
Quantum biology: Do weird physics effects abound in nature?
by Jason Palmer and Alex Mansfield, BBC
"Disappearing in one place and reappearing in another. Being in two places at once. Communicating information seemingly faster than the speed of light.
"This kind of weird behaviour is commonplace in dark, still laboratories studying the branch of physics called quantum mechanics, but what might it have to do with fresh flowers, migrating birds, and the smell of rotten eggs?
"Welcome to the frontier of what is called quantum biology."

"Think Outside The Box"
from Noetic Now eNews
"In recent weeks a public controversy has emerged over scientific research into the nature of consciousness. It involves IONS scientists, as well as some of our colleagues, and may reflect shifting attitudes about frontier research, so we want to share a little about it with you here.
"TED, the popular conference organizer with the tag line "ideas worth spreading," recently removed videos of two TEDx talks from their official YouTube channel and then cancelled a TEDx event. The censored talks and cancelled event had a common theme -- exploring the possibility that consciousness extends beyond the brain. TED's justification for their actions was that the contributors were promoting "pseudo-science." The videos were talks presented by Rupert Sheldrake and Graham Hancock, and the event presenters included Russell Targ, Larry Dossey, and IONS' Marilyn Schlitz."

THE TRANSFORMATIONAL LIFE
A TEDX PRESENTATION
by Robb Smith
This is well worth 15-minutes of your time to hear a profound and inspiring talk by Robb Smith about where we've been
and where we're going, acknowledging the connectedness of all things.
"I had the privilege of giving a talk at TEDxNevada last week where I discussed the end of the information age and the
rise of the transformation age. I mark the beginning of the transformation age at 2007,
a year that saw the confluence of the first next generation smartphone (iPhone) and the
concomitant rise of high speed data networks to support them.
While the date is ultimately unimportant, what is important is the arrival of systems that
support rapid reconfiguration of every aspect of human life . . ."

Near-death Experiences Between Science and Prejudice
by Dr Enrico Facco and Dr Christian Agrillo
"Science exists to refute dogmas; nevertheless, dogmas may be introduced when undemonstrated scientific axioms lead us to reject facts incompatible with them. Several studies have proposed psychobiological interpretations of near-death experiences (NDEs), claiming that NDEs are a mere byproduct of brain functions gone awry; however, relevant facts incompatible with the ruling physicalist and reductionist stance have been often neglected.
. . .
The relatively high incidence and clear phenomenology of NDEs call for scientific explanations of such a complex phenomenon, which appears awkward for its transcendent and sometimes even parapsychological tone. Several neuropsychological and neurobiological hypotheses have been advanced in the past two decades within the ruling context of physicalism and scientific reductionism. Here, we shall shortly outline three items essential for a proper assessment of NDEs: (a) available scientific interpretations; (b) telling facts from hypotheses; (c) epistemological aspects and related scientific prejudices."
A most interesting and careful paper on science and NDEs.

Your Body Senses Future
Wouldn't it be amazing if our bodies prepared us for future events that could be very important to us,
even if there's no clue about what those events will be?
Presentiment without any external clues may, in fact, exist, according to new Northwestern University
research that analyzes the results of 26 studies published between 1978 and 2010.
The abstract of the study is here.
Here is the press release for this study, from Science Daily
The Afterlife Exists
"A successful neurosurgeon, who has taught at Harvard Medical School and other universities, spent his life dismissing claims of heavenly out-of-body experiences and refuting such talk with scientific logic, until he himself had a near-death experience.
During that time, Dr. Eben Alexander says he saw heaven and knows the afterlife exists. "
Dr. Alexander's story was in Newsweek, as a cover story, Oct 9, 2012. An article in
Huffington Post has the story and a link to his book.

From Society for Scientific Exploration
EdgeScience is a magazine for the general public, published by the SSE. Why EdgeScience? Because scientific
knowledge is still full of unknowns. What remains to be discovered - what we don't know - very likely dwarfs what
we do know. And what we think we know may not be entirely correct or fully understood. Anomalies, which researchers
tend to sweep under the rug, should be actively pursued as clues to potential breakthroughs and new directions in science.
Each issue contains both short news and comment material, as well as indepth articles.
Edgescience, quarterly issues.
Prophecy of the Condor and the Eagle
"Nearly every culture I know prophesies that in the late 1990's we entered a period of remarkable transition. At monasteries in the Himalayas, ceremonial sites in Indonesia, and indigenous reservations in North America, from the depths of the Amazon to the peaks of the Andes, and into the ancient Mayan cities of Central America, I have heard that ours is a special moment in human history, and that each of us was born at this time because we have a mission to accomplish.
The titles and the words of the prophecies differ slightly. They tell variously of a New Age, the Third Millennium, the Age of Aquarius, the Beginning of the Fifth Sun, or the end of old calendars and the commencement of new ones. Despite the varying terminologies, however, they have a great deal in common, and 'The Prophecy of the Condor and Eagle" is typical. It states that back in the mists of history, human societies divided and took different paths: that of the condor (representing the heart, intuitive and mystical) and that of the eagle (representing the brain, rational and material). In the 1490's, the prophesy said, the two paths would converge and the eagle would drive the condor to the verge of extinction. Then, five hundred years later, in the 1990's a new epoch would begin, one in which the condor and the eagle will have the opportunity to reunite and fly together in the same sky, along the same path. If the condor and eagle accept this opportunity, they will create a most remarkable offspring, unlike any seen before."

Qualia Science - A New View
"Cosmic Qualia Science is the Fundamental Science of the future - a new form of qualitative
'phenomenological' research that will revolutionise our understanding of physics and physiology,
medicine and psychology; integrating theology and theosophy, cosmology and musicology,
aesthetics and 'aether' science."
The quote above is taken from the website of Peter Wilberg author of the book "The Qualia Revolution".

The Boggle Factor
William F. Bengston, PhD
In this article Bill Bengston comments on the problems that good scientific work done in an area not yet accepted
by the mainstream has getting accepted. Dr Bengston has done a "multi-decade work" in the field of energy healing of cancer
in animals. Not only he has been quite successful, he has taught his technique to many others,
some of whom were quite skeptical at the start.
He points out that it is almost always hard for an expert to accept a different insight in the area of his own expertise.
This is the challenge that can be faced by anyone who is working on the frontiers of science.
The link below, will bring Issue #12 of EdgeScience published by The Society for Scientific Exploration to your machine (it is free).
Dr Bengston's article is the first in this issue. An earlier article, on his healing work, was in
EdgeScience 2, January-March 2010 starting on page #5.
Russell Targ Interview
Here is a YouTube interview of Russell Targ by Kim Greenhouse of
"Its Rain Making Time"
Russell explains the insights on how esp works that he drew from the remote viewing project at SRI.
These insights are also detailed in his book
The Reality of ESP: A Physicist's Proof of Psychic Abilities.
(This is Kim's introduction to the interview.)
Although many of us have accepted the reality of extrasensory perception and remote viewing, these mental faculties remain difficult to explain within
the framework of accepted scientific cosmology. The evidence presented in
"The Reality of ESP"
is rooted in statistical proof. Russell describes
statistical proof as evidence "so strong it would be logically or probabilistically unreasonable to deny," affirming that "If facts alone can convince
a skeptical investigator of the reality of ESP, this book should do it."

The Science Delusion
Dr Rupert Sheldrake
The science delusion is the belief that science already understands the nature of reality; that the fundamental questions are answered,
leaving only the details to be filled in. Now Dr Rupert Sheldrake, one of the world's most innovative scientists, shows that science is being
constricted by assumptions that have hardened into dogmas. He discusses how the sciences would be freer, more interesting, and more
fun without these.

The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce
I found reading about David Wilcock and his work very intriguing. He is a "seer" who claims to get information
from the same "source" that provided Edgar Cayce with his prolific and penetrating insight on many healings
and his "life readings" on previous lives.

Rediscovering An Ancient Force
Claude Swanson, Ph D
In this essay Dr Swanson describes the many and varied from of "different" energy studied from all over the world and back
through time, right up to the work done in Russia over the last several decades. These various studies were done
by scientists, mystics, and others, but all seemed to lead to aspects of the same energy.
Dr Swanson gathered the "best evidence" available from many sources to understand how this energy behaves.
This work is all presented in the book "Life Force: The Scientific Basis".
Here is the essay.
Waking the Global Heart: Humanity's Rite of Passage from the Love of Power to the Power of Love
Anodea Judith, PhD

How It Feels to Have a Stroke
Jill Bolte Taylor
"Neuroanatomist Jill Bolte Taylor had an opportunity few brain scientists would wish for: One morning, she realized she
was having a massive stroke. As it happened -- as she felt her brain functions slip away one by one, speech, movement,
understanding -- she studied and remembered every moment. This is a powerful story about how our brains define us
and connect us to the world and to one another."
