MEMORIAL TO DEAN BROWN
Dr. Dean Brown was one of the most remarkable persons I have ever encounter -- a true Renaissance Man! I met Dean through Dr. Jean Millay over fifteen years ago. At the time he was C.E.O. of the Picodyne Corporation. One of his immediate concerns was to extend and generalize the fundamentals of contemporary science in a rigorous way that would lead to a formal means for the exploration of inner space. After talking with Dean, I invited him to speak to the Foundation for Mind-Being Research. On May 27, 1988 he discussed "Meta-Science and Meta-Technologies."
As I got to know Dean better I became fascinated with his quest for "cosmic laws" that are at the root of, and encompass, the physical laws of modern science. On November 28, 1997 Dean spoke to the Foundation on "Cosmic Law." This was a memorable evening. We were meeting at the Baylight Church of Religious Science in Palo Alto, but we did not have a key to the building -- a church member would always be there to open the doors. However, this night no one came -- despite frantic calls on borrowed cell phones we were unable to contact anyone. The parking lot was filling up with cars and dozens of people were converging on the locked doors. Dean remained perfectly calm. Suddenly cosmic laws came into play. Someone said they knew of a pizza parlor that might provide a room. I called -- a room was available and it was free. With a caravan of cars, including our video camera team, lights and audio amplifiers, we descended upon the pizza parlor. With attendees enjoying beer and pizza, Dean gave an inspiring talk on Cosmic Laws fully relishing the entire unique experience.
Dean and I began to spend more and more time together having all day discussions on science, metaphysics, philosophy, and any other topic that might come up. When Dean came to our house in Los Altos, my wife Marion, a musician, would sometimes join the discussions which Dean then switched to music. As a result, Dean and Jacotte Chollet gave a talk to the Foundation on "Multidimensional Music: Its Healing Aspects" on September 22, 2000. Our talks were so rich that I would usually tape them and take notes directly on my computer. Dean would always insist on our sharply defining all terms. There was continually a wonderful give and take as our ideas converged. Dean was always open to new ideas and was never dogmatic. Both our viewpoints would often change as the dialogue deepened. It was an inspiring and beautiful experience working with a mind and spirit of the magnitude and quality that Dean possessed.
By 2001 we had established common definitions and could exchange ideas at an efficient and rapid rate. It seemed time to write some joint papers and Dean was eager to participate in the project. Our first paper was entitled Resonance, Coherence, and Us and the second was Domain of Unbounded Potential: The Science of the Absolute. These papers are on the FMBR Web site. Dean and I were working on a third paper at the time of Dean's death: A Journey Into Infinity aimed at a broader audience including the young, and being extensively illustrated by Bob Bourdeaux.
Dean continued to be a wonderful resource for the Foundation. On January 26, 2001 he participated on a panel with Dr. Dean Radin, and Russell Targ discussing "Beyond Time: Implications of Non-Locality." On April 27, 2001 he participated on another panel with Mali Burgess and myself on "Bringing Order Out of Chaos: The Power of Pattern on Human Beings." On February 22, 2002 Dean joined me in discussing our paper "Resonance, Coherence, and Us: The Connection Between the Physical and Non-Physical." On September 27, 2002 Dean talked about "Evolution: Foundations for the Theory" in which he presented the deeper meaning of evolution as derived from cosmic law. In 2003 Dean published his book on Cosmic Laws that is now available on the FMBR Web site. On May 23, 2003 Dean was to present with Dr. Oliver Markley their plans for a project on "An Enlightened Wisdom Society." Unfortunately, because of increasing health problems Dean could not attend this Foundation meeting.
Dean lived a full and productive life and has touched many people in profound ways. We will all miss him, but hope that he will continue to inspire us in his gentle way from those other levels of reality that he discussed in our papers.
In fond memory,
Bill Gough
